A team of 12 from Chard Rotary are taking on the challenge of cycling the equivalent distance of rowing across the English Channel to Helmstedt, Germany, on static bikes and the public are invited to help.
The mammoth journey, which is setting off from Phoenix Fitness, is a total of 765 miles (734 miles plus 31 miles of rowing)
Now since cycling across the English Channel is impossible, the team is using a mix of exercise bikes and a rowing machine.
Meanwhile over in Helmstedt, the twin town to Chard, plans are underway to get people to take part by cycling and rowing the same distance back across on the same day. If all goes well, there will be a live video link between Chard Rotary and Helmstedt, thanks to the Helmstedt Society.
It’s estimated this endurance ride will take approximately 12 hours using three static cycles and one rowing machine.
Refreshments will be available on the day.
Events start at 7 in the morning.
